The Support Center for Nonprofit Management was incorporated in 1997 as an independent 501(c)(3) organization. We are based in New York City, and grew out of a long affiliation with the Support Centers of America, an international network founded in 1971. We have had a presence in New York since our merger in 1985 with the Accountants for the Public Interest, and we extended our scope in 1995, when the Support Center of New Jersey became part of the New York office. Our former parent merged in 1998 with the Nonprofit Management Association to form the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, a national membership organization, providing us access to consulting and training expertise around the country. With a funding grant from the Trenton Funder's Collaborative we opened an office, based in the Trenton State Library, in 2001.
